11 Weeks Old

Happy 11-weeks to Lucy!

Lucy has been grabbing her toys constantly. She is so determined! Tonight I found her sleeping while holding onto her new "fairy" toy that Matt named Eva which has a wooden ring on it. So sweet. Too bad I didn't get a photo! I did however get a clip of her morning play time in her bouncy seat. She keeps herself amused quite well while I shower!

The Morning Squirmer

Lucy is in the best mood of the whole day during the first hour after she wakes up. We talk and smile and read books together every morning...that is, after she has gotten some of her morning squirming out of her system! Some mornings I am so exhausted and can barely open my eyes and there she is smiling and squirming, ready to start the day. How can I resist?

She has also been holding on to her rattle long enough to shake it a few times before she drops it so I took a little video of that this morning as well.

10 Weeks Old

This has been a very exciting and busy week. We celebrated a lot: Matt's first Father's Day and me getting the OK from the doctor to dispose of my crutches and aircast!

This meant we finally could go for walks as a family together so we started that very night of course. Canute was beyond excited!

Lucy always sees many new and curious things when she is outside with us. Below is her very first moth sighting!

She spends quite a bit of time inspecting her feet these days. If she is not looking all around her to see what is going on, she can be found staring intently at her squirming feet.

Lucy also reaches for her toys now when she is on her activity mat and in her bouncy seat. It is pretty fun to watch her grasp and play with everything. She is so interested in all the colors and shapes that dangle in front of or above her. This morning I watched her suck her thumb for the first time and in the same fashion as I did when I was little - so cute. All in all, it was a fantastic week and I think I have been smiling non-stop every day because I can walk again!

Nap Time

I took a nap in my crib for the first time ever today! In fact, it was my first time in my crib, period. Mom was a bit nervous that I wouldn't cooperate since I am used to napping in the swing or on her. This was most convenient for her when she was on crutches. Don't worry, I will still get to nap on my mom or in her sling. Anyway, it went quite smoothly (except that it made mom miss me a lot)! As you can see, my deer friend watched over me while I slept.

Lucy Turns 2 Months Old!

Lucy had her two-month-old doctor's appointment today.
She weighs 10.2 pounds and is 23" long at nine weeks!
We successfully delayed the first set of vaccinations for Lucy and our pediatrician was respectful yet urged us to stay "on track". Mom and dad prefer to delay the shots until she's at least 4 months old when perhaps her immune system is a little stronger. We will be following an alternative schedule that spaces the shots apart in the hopes for less overload on her little body.

Just in the last few days Lucy has become very interested in her feet and her hands. It seems she has just discovered them! Very cute. She is also extremely aware of other people now and often makes eye contact. She always looks so engaged and we're happy to see her doing so well. Practicing tummy time isn't always a cheery event for Lucy but she is so strong and pushes herself right along!

We are anticipating this coming Thursday night when I start to teach one night a week for the next few weeks. It will be Lucy's first time away from mom for an extended period: almost 5 hours! I am sure it will be a bit hard on us but also a step toward independence for everyone in our family. Breaks for mom and quality time for dad and baby are both good things.

The light at the end of the tunnel

We had a very social and busy week visiting with friends, playing with other babies, and just enjoying being out and about on our own. Bearing down with 100% weight on a healing ankle makes the world of a difference for us. Finally, things feel like they are back to "normal" at home after the last 7 weeks of mother-immobility. It's been rather rainy and overcast but that hasn't stopped us! It is worth mentioning that all this rain has smothered the smoke from wildfires for the time-being and we've had beautifully fresh air on Murphy Dome.

7 going on 8

This morning I practiced holding things before I got out of bed. First I played with my wooden rattle. I am still having trouble with accidentally hitting myself in the head with it. However, I actually shook it today for the first time.

After rattle practice I played with a very soft sheep that squeaks. I like touching it to my face and grabbing it with both hands. Canute stood very close by in case I dropped it. I have to be very careful with my stuffed animals around him!

Last night my dad took me for a walk with Canute. We found wildflowers! Wild Arctic Roses, Labrador Tea, and cranberry buds.

For the last few days I have been helping mom in the garden to thin seedlings and weed. It has been really nice to spend more time outside!

So, tomorrow I turn 8 weeks old!

My activity mat!

I am now seven weeks old and I have been trying out my activity mat for the last few days. I enjoy staring up at the hanging objects and batting them with my hands. I also make a lot of silly sounds when I am on my mat. Here is a sampling...

Weeks Five and Six

My mom got her cast off after one month and it made a huge difference for us! We are now able to go outside on our own even though she is still on crutches. She can put weight down on her healing ankle so stairs are not as scary anymore.

I've been making some really cute coo-ing and babbling sounds to my parents. It's amazing how many different ones I come up with each day! I also held a beautiful wooden rattle that was given to me for the first time. I drop it a lot but I also figured out how to touch it to my mouth. Once I accidentally hit myself in the forehead with it but I only cried for a second.

I now recognize and focus on people and animals. Usually when I am crying and someone picks me up I stop and shortly afterward I smile, am getting my diaper changed or I am nursing. My newest expression that I've learned is a pout with the bottom lip out as far as it will go!

I love to smile!

My mom told me the lactation consultant at the hospital the week I was born told her she's never seen such a happy smiley baby this young! The smiles don't always get documented but here are some of the ones that have...

Weeks Three and Four

My growing mohawk was being documented quite a bit during this time. It just keeps getting taller!

At one-month-old I got my first real bath instead of a sponge bath because my umbilical cord stump was finally healed up. I wasn't too much fonder of this bath compared to my very first but I didn't cry too much.

I also went to my first BBQ and enjoyed socializing with everyone at the party. Mostly I was mesmerized by the flames coming from the fire pit.

Every night I enjoy some time with my dad before we go to bed and on weekend mornings he gets to sleep in and enjoy playing with me.

My mom says she is so happy and lucky to spend every single day with me. She said I make her forget all about her broken ankle.
